The Courage to Begin
Starting something new can be surprisingly intimidating.
Whether it’s opening a blank journal for the first time, picking up a crochet hook, threading a needle for a cross stitch project, or trying any creative hobby you’ve always admired from afar, there is often one thing standing in our way before we even begin:
The fear of not being good enough.
We tell ourselves we’ll start when we have more experience. When we have more time. When we know what we’re doing. When our work looks as beautiful as the inspiration photos we’ve saved online.
But creativity doesn’t work that way.
Every artist, crafter, writer, and maker started exactly where you are now—at the beginning.
The truth is that perfection is often the biggest barrier to creating anything at all. It convinces us that every page needs to be beautiful, every stitch needs to be flawless, and every project needs to be worthy of sharing. In reality, the magic happens when we allow ourselves to be beginners.
When we give ourselves permission to experiment.
To make mistakes.
To learn.
To grow.
There is something incredibly brave about trying something new. It means putting a piece of yourself out into the world. It means allowing others to see your ideas, your creativity, and your unique perspective. That can feel vulnerable—but it can also be incredibly rewarding.
Because along the way, something unexpected happens.
You find your people.
You discover others who share your interests, your excitement, your curiosity, and even your insecurities. You realize you’re not the only one who worried about starting. You’re not the only one learning as you go. You’re not the only one who wondered if your work was “good enough.”
And suddenly, creating becomes less about the finished product and more about the connections made along the journey.
That’s what community is.
A place where you can show up exactly as you are.
A place where progress is celebrated just as much as perfection.
A place where encouragement is freely given, questions are welcomed, and every member belongs.
That is the heart of Traveling Arts Project.
TAPs was never just about journals, cross stitch, crochet, or creative projects. It’s about building a community of people who support one another, inspire one another, and aren’t afraid to share their creativity with the world.
Whether you’re a seasoned artist or someone who hasn’t picked up a creative hobby in years, there is a place for you here.
We believe that creativity should be joyful.
We believe that trying is enough.
We believe that imperfect projects often become our favorite memories.
Most importantly, we believe that the best journeys are the ones we don’t take alone.
So if you’ve been waiting for the perfect moment to start something new, consider this your sign.
Open the journal.
Make the first stitch.
Create the first page.
Take the first step.
Your community is waiting for you.
